Chicken Panini Sandwich and Panini Bread Recipe

‘Panini’ is an Italian word that means ‘sandwich’ in English. Chicken panini sandwiches are typically served on panini bread, stuffed with a tasty filling of sliced chicken, cheese, and veggies. The bread of the sandwich is usually toasted or grilled on a grill pan until warm.

Panini sandwiches are not only easy to prepare but will become a family favorite. Here is how you can easily make them at home.

Homemade Panini Bread

Just combine all the ingredients – flour, salt, yeast, and water into a mixing bowl and mix them well. Mix melted butter or olive oil and add warm water. Knead it in the stand mixer or use your hands for 10 to 15 mins. Apply some oil on the surface and keep it covered for 1 to 2 hours in a warm place.

This dough is not as tacky as the ones we made for Pita Bread but instead is a soft dough similar to our regular chapati dough.

Instead of Italian bread, you can also use regular bakery bread. However, if you are so inclined to get a perfect taste why not try a homemade panini bread.

Making of Panini Sandwich

Marinate chicken for 30 minutes. Marination of chicken should be done during the dough rest time. Marinated chicken is then cooked with veggies and other spices.

In the meantime, the dough is rolled down into desired bread shape and covered to rest for 4 to 5 minutes. Then bread are baked on low flame for a few minutes.

Bread is sliced to sandwich the Panini fillings and then grilled from both sides.

Bread ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • tbsp olive oil
  • warm water as required

Filling Ingredients

  • 300 grams chicken boneless
  • salt to taste
  • ½ tsp red chili crushed
  • ¼ tsp black pepper crushed
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp mustard paste
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce
  • some black olives
  • capsicum
  • tomato seedless
  • onion to taste
  • mozzarella cheese to taste
  • melted butter as required
