Chicken Dum Biryani


  • 1 kg chicken
  • 1 tbsp lemon
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp biryani masala (you can also use homemade biryani masala)
  • salt to taste
  • ½ tbsp coriander (dhania)
  • 1 piece bay leaf (tex patta)
  • 2 pieces green cardamom (hari elaichi)
  • 1 piece cinnamon stick (darcheeni)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds (zeera)
  • 6-8 black pepper corns (sabut kali mirchain)
  • 2 cloves (laung)
  • 2 tbsp ginger garlic (lahsan adrak ka paste)
  • 4-5 pieces green chilies
  • 2 pieces tomatoes
  • 2 large sized onions fried slices
  • 1 cup yogurt (dahi)
  • ½ cup oil
  • 2 pieces potatoes
  • 1 kg basmati rice (boiled with salt, cumin seeds, bay leaf and anise star)
  • tsp orange food color
  • 4-5 pieces green chilies
  • a handful of mint leaves
  • a handful of coriander leaves
  • fried onion slices
  • 2 tbsp clarified butter (ghee)
